Cupping

Cupping is a practice used in traditional medicine in several parts of the world, including China and the Middle East. It involves creating suction on the skin using a glass, silicone or plastic cup. Negative pressure is created in the cup either by applying a flame to the cup to remove oxygen before placing it on the skin. Cupping often leaves pinkish-red marks on the skin which typically clear up in 3-5 days.

Cupping is very beneficial in relieving stiffness in muscles and can restore range of motion in restricted joints.

The amount of pressure and suction may be adjusted for your comfort. A skilled acupuncturist may be able to apply cupping with limited markings. Please discuss this prior to treatment if it a concern.
